Software Piracy Costing UK ?‚?£1bn in Lost Tax

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) claims that reducing software piracy by 37 per cent could generate 13,220 new high paying jobs, recoup ?‚?£1.08bn in tax revenues and contribute ?‚?£4.46bn to the UK economy.

Sri Lankan Software Companies Fight Piracy

Software companies are planning to launch a series of law suits against unlawful copying of their work in Sri Lanka this year.?‚?  Jayantha Fernando, director and legal advisor at the Information Communications Technology Agency (ICTA), said many individuals and firms were unaware that private legal remedies are available to combat piracy.

How Less Piracy Leads to Economic Gains

I read on ZDNet Asia News that according to a study commissioned by the Business Software Alliance (BSA) and conducted by research house IDC, with a cut of just 10 percent in PC software piracy by 2011, some 435,000 new jobs, over US$40 billion in economic growth, and more than US$5 billion in tax revenues could be generated in the region.

Microsoft South Africa Cracks Down on Software Piracy

Microsoft SA has reached settlements totaling hundreds of thousands of rands with eight rogue computer dealers found installing illegal software on new computers being sold to customers. The crackdowns are part of Microsoft?’?‚¬?„’s Genuine Software Initiative (GSI), which aims to help protect legitimate distributors and customers from the effects of software piracy, said Mark Reynolds, who heads the small and medium-sized business division at Microsoft SA.
