Trade Group Names Top 10 Pirated Software

Software titles most pirated by companies last year include Symantec Norton AntiVirus, Adobe Acrobat, Autodesk AutoCAD, Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator, and others.
The SIIA released its Anti-Piracy Year in Review this week, noting that it reached its largest piracy settlement with an auction site and its first settlement through its Corporate Content Anti-Piracy Program.

Microsoft Helps Nab $900M Piracy Ring

Near-perfect knockoffs of 21 different Microsoft programs began surfacing around the world just over a decade ago. Soon, PCs in more than a dozen countries were running illegal copies of Windows and Office, turning unwitting consumers into criminals and, Microsoft says, exposing them to increased risk of malicious viruses and spyware.

BSA Fights Software Piracy in Africa

Business Software Alliance (BSA), the foremost organization dedicated to promoting a safe and legal digital world, has challenged African countries to reduce intellectual stealing (otherwise known as software piracy)?‚? in order to reap?‚? economic rewards. If the proper steps are taken to reduce software piracy
by 10%, 24,000 new jobs can be generated, as well as $3.4 billion in spending in the local IT for the next four years.

Microsoft Answers Software Piracy

Microsoft has launched an e-commerce portal last week that will act as a one-stop shop for the purchases of original software. “Contrary to all the beliefs that, this portal will marginalize the physical presence of channel partners and adversely affect on their margins, it will actually help them to serve customers in the wider geographical boundaries” stated Brian Campbell, director- original software initiative for Microsoft India.

Software Piracy in Scotland

As many as 41 companies in Scotland are under investigation for alleged software piracy following a successful campaign by the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
Throughout the month of November, the BSA offered Glasgow businesses a 30 day legalization period to ensure their software was fully licensed, during which they agreed not to take any legal action against firms who registered their participation in the program.
